Eyebrow measuring is one of the most important aspects when it comes to Microblading. Having set steps in place will help you to achieve ‘perfect’ brows but always keep in mind that all face shapes and brow shapes should differ in order to complement each individual client. Below you will find 2 measuring options: 1. Measuring a client with no brows 2. Measuring a client with existing brows

Before starting the measuring steps we will determine HOW to measure certain points:

1. Determine Center of Face

To divide the face in half you need to find the center of the face. Once this has been determined draw a line from the chin up to the forehead. For a live model you will mark/draw a short line in the middle of the brows.

2. Determine the ‘Set’ of the Eyes

It is important to understand that the ‘set’ of the eyes play a big role in measurement and styling. The eyes can be Normal, Narrow or Wide Set.

a) Measure each eye, the distance in-between the eyes should measure roughly the same as 1 individual eye. This would be Normal set eyes.
b) Narrow set eyes should measure a shorter distance in-between.
c) Wide set eyes should measure a larger distance in-between.

3. Determine the Height of the Brows above the Eyes

For a new brow follow these instructions:

a) The distance from the center of the pupil to the inner corner of the eye should be the same as when flipped vertically, draw the horizontal line.

For an existing brow follow these instructions:

a) Use the same steps as above BUT keep in mind that the client’s height has already been determined, you can raise or lower this point according to her face shape as well as her requirements.

4. Determine the Start, Arch and End of the Brow. Each ‘Set’ will have a Slightly Different way to Measure

Normal Set Eyes

Starting Point:
From the center of the chin, measure through the piercing point up towards the forehead.

Arch:
From the center of the chin, measure across the outer point of the iris.

Ending Point:
From the edge of the nose, measure to the outer corner of the eye.

Close Set Eyes

Starting Point:
From the edge of the nose, measure vertically up towards the forehead.

Arch:
From the edge of the nose, measure across the outer corner of the pupil.

Ending Point:
From the edge of the nose, measure to the outer corner of the eye.

Wide Set Eyes

Starting Point:
From the piercing point, measure vertically up towards the forehead

Arch:
From the piercing point, measure across the center of the pupil.

Ending Point:
From the piercing point, measure to the outer corner of the eye.

5. Determine the Thickness of the Brow

Measure the distance from the center of the pupil to the inner corner of the eye, then using this measurement, create a vertical line that begins at the inner corner of the eye.

6. Determine a High, Medium or Low Arch

High arch- the height should be the same measurement as the thickness of the brow to the horizontal line
Medium arch- the height should be half of the brow thickness
Low arch- the height should be 1/3 of the brow thickness

Real live model laying down first:

Step 1:
Determine the center of the face and draw mark

Step 2:
Determine the ‘set’ of the eyes

Step 3:
Determine starting point, ending point and arch, draw marks

Step 4:
Measure the length of each brow to ensure they are the same, adjust measurement and arch if necessary

Step 5:
Measure starting points of brow to ensure that the distance to center point is the same

Step 6:
Determine the height of the brows by using the horizontal lines on eyebrow ruler, adjust if necessary

Step 7:
Draw all your marks up in lines on the forehead

Step 8:
Draw the brow outline with thin and clean strokes

Step 9:
Measure all points again as well as the thickness of the brows

Step 10:
Have client sit up and measure all points again. Clean lines to ensure they are thin and neat. Hand client a mirror to look at the shape and confirm that she is satisfied. Make adjustments if needed.
